CMN3 Centre for Micro(nano)electronics, Micro(nano)systems and Micro(nano)engineering

The site-specific conditions and the functional programme of the facility were key factors in shaping the design concept.

Our intention was to create a building that would integrate harmoniously with the industrial character of the Campus, while clearly expressing its educational, scientific and research-oriented purpose. The resulting architectural form is deliberately simple, rhythmic and modular, reinforcing the building’s technical character. The monolithic volume is articulated by three recessed “windows”, each defined by a distinct spatial function.

The arrangement of the arcades is closely integrated with the building’s functional programme and internal organisation. At its centre is a two-storey hall, directly accessible from the entrance arcade at ground level and extending along a glazed façade that provides a view into the Clean Room.

A generous staircase connects the hall with the upper level, which opens onto a terrace overlooking the surrounding greenery. Conceived as the social heart of the building, this space provides a setting for interaction and exchange, fostering synergies between scientific research, experimentation and education.

The glazed western wall of the Clean Room establishes a clear spatial boundary between the building’s two principal functional zones.
